Tourism arrivals to Indonesia jump 12 percent in 1st semester

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - More holiday-makers heading to Indonesia's resort island of Bali boosted overall tourist arrivals by 12.22 percent in the first half of 2007 compared to last year, according to data released Wednesday.

The number of foreign tourists heading to Indonesia climbed to 2.14 million in the first six months of the year, official figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics showed.

Indonesia to build Tsunami Museum in Aceh

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia will build a $7.4 million museum in Aceh province in memory of about 170,000 people who died there in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami,
its architect said on Wednesday.

The museum in the provincial capital Banda Aceh will feature a building that
looks like a traditional house elevated on stilts, said Ridwan Kamil, the architect who won a contest to design the museum.

PLN to build 9,000 MW electricity for Sumatera

Jambi (ANTARA News) - The government is planning to build 10,000 MW steam-powered electricity plants (PLTU), of which 9,000 MW will be designed for Sumatra, President Director of state-owned electricity company (PLN), Edi Widiyono said.

Edi Widiyono made the remarks after a meeting with Jambi Deputy Governor H Antony Zeidra Abidin here on Wednesday. He said that the remaining 1,000 MW would be provided for other regions in Indonesia.

The PLN president director said that it was a great challenge for the government to build PLTU`s with a combined capacity of 10,000 MW.
